When you are on your own, you may quit on the second or third day after experiencing minor detox symptoms or after having some doubts or stressful thoughts. When you participate in a project as a group, it takes a serious problem for you to quit in the middle.
In my family, when one of us announces a desire to go on even a short-term, one- or two-day fast, somebody else in the family often joins that person just for support. In fact, recently I was doing my own personal green smoothie cleanse when family members, including my brother and my nephew who live in Canada, joined me for one or two days during different periods of my cleanse. That felt very nice because I had somebody to talk to about the particulars of my healing. With my family support I easily stayed on green smoothies for eighteen days. At the same time, I was happy to inspire my loved ones to benefit from short smoothie fasts.
I have noticed that whenever people go on a cleansing program, they love to discuss in detail all their bodily functions, new sensations in their organism, difficulties, concerns, and achievements. People who are not doing a cleanse get not only bored quickly but also irritated, possibly because they regret that they are missing the benefits of the cleanse. For that reason, at our retreats we discourage participants from calling home too often and sharing in detail their personal transformations, which are not always easy. Relatives of our participants have confided with me many times that they found some of the details disturbing, alarming, and even disgusting.
Doing a cleanse as a group makes the task of preparing smoothies many times easier. It’s almost the same amount of work, whether you make a smoothie for one or for three people, because it involves practically the same amount of blending and cleaning. Also, you can take turns preparing fresh smoothies at different times of the day. I strongly recommend that you prepare a fresh smoothie four times a day. This is necessary to keep your taste buds and spirits entertained without getting bored.
In my family, we know that Valya makes the yummiest green puddings, Sergei is good at savory green soups, and I am best at super-green smoothies. Similarly, before working in the kitchen with a group of helpers at each retreat, we let everybody make various smoothies at different times and then decide together who is good at what. Since Sergei is a morning person and enjoys making the first smoothie of the day, he shows up at the kitchen at dawn, turns on pleasant music, and prepares his “bucket o’smoothie” while tapping his feet. Dagmar, my helper at Swedish retreats, prefers to be the last one in the kitchen, so she always helps with the last smoothie of the day. Some people prefer to take care of one smoothie all by themselves. Others like to work in pairs so they can talk. We always try to share the work in a way that leaves everybody most satisfied.
